Today's Readings: Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church

As we near the end of the month of May in which we give special honor to the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are reminded in Scripture that Jesus has given her as the mother of us all.

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother
and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
            and Mary of Magdala.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved,
he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.”
Then he said to the disciple,
            “Behold, your mother.”
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

Eve, who is the mother of all the living, is mentioned in the first reading. Now Mary is the mother of all those who are disciples of Christ.

I want to share this video which explains the role of Mary from Scripture. It really blew my mind when I first watched it.

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,

our life our sweetness, and our hope!

To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve

To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears!

Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, your eyes of mercy towards us,

and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
