Nelson Mandela said:
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? [...] Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's
nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to
shine, as children do[...] it's in everyone. As we let our own light shine we give others permission to do the
same; as we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

God created each of us to be something special. Somewhere within each of us lives our true self, and this is the person God created you to be. In today's readings, St. Paul shows something of his true self as he courageously stands before the Sanhedrin convened to deal with him. Like Paul, we can stand before the things we fear and take courage saying, as the Psalm says:

Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge;
I say to the Lord, "My Lord are you."
O Lord, my allotted portion and my cup,
you it is who hold fast my lot.

Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices,
my body, too, abides in confidence;
Because you will not abandon my soul to the nether world,
nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption.

Fear separates us from Christ. One of the phrases most often said by Jesus was: "Fear not!" We are all called to be in union with Christ. We are called to be one with Him. He prayed to the Father that we would be one with Him, saying:

And I have given them the glory you gave me,
so that they may be one, as we are one,
I in them and you in me,
that they may be brought to perfection as one,
that the world may know that you sent me,
and that you loved them even as you loved me.

I recommend to you a chapter of the Pope's book, Crossing the Threshold of Hope, which can be read online. The chapter is entitled, Be Not Afraid!

God Bless You.
